What is a Neuropsychological Evaluation
A
neuropsychological evaluation is a comprehensive assessment of cognitive
functions (learning and memory or problem-solving).
Standard testing procedures are used to assess the abilities that relate to
learning and use knowledge skills.
These areas include:
-
Intelligence and Cognitive Skills
-
Academic Achievement
-
Learning, Memory, Concentration
-
Language Skills
-
Problem-solving and Critical
Thinking
-
Perceptual, Spatial & Motor Skills
-
Planning, Organization, and
Judgment
Benefits of Evaluation
-
Discover the reasons for your child's academic
struggles
-
Determine if your child may qualify for special
education services
-
Explain your child's learning style to you and
school staff
-
Obtain recommendations that will help your
child learn to compensate for difficulties.
-
Assess the effectiveness of treatments and
interventions
-
Determine if academic difficulties are due to
cognitive or motivational deficits
Potential Benefits of Psychological
Evaluation
Accurate diagnosis of psychological difficulties will lead
to treatment strategies that work to improve relationships, self-esteem, energy,
ability to initiate, and academic performance. Children may feel
less overwhelmed, more in control, and happier. They may demonstrate more
positive thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
Our recommended strategies include interventions at school and at home.
